Responding to

Community Voice

Social Capital and Community Recreation

Located atop the hill in the heart of Cayce Place, Martha O’Bryan’s Family Success Network serves as inclusive third space within the community where individuals of all ages, races, and backgrounds can gather to learn, play, and grow together.

Need

Most neighborhoods are segregated by race and class. As our community transforms, nurturing relationships among diverse residents is crucial to cultivate a thriving and lively community.

Approach and Innovation

Largest Public Housing Redevelopments

Martha O’Bryan is in the largest public housing redevelopments in the country. Co-developed through community voice and input, Cayce Place is growing from 900 public housing units to 2,700 brand new mixed-income units with a commitment to no resident displacement and increasing the number of available public housing units.

Community Asset and Resource

As our neighborhood transforms, our mission is to cultivate a nurturing space that fosters trust and connectivity amongst new and original residents. We aspire for every community member to see our space as a community asset and resource.

Inclusive and Engaging Community-Building Activities

We offer a wide range of inclusive and engaging community-building activities, spanning arts, music, fitness, recreation, shared meals, and peer-to-peer programs. Our goal is to deepen connections among neighbors, leveraging existing strengths and fortifying local support networks.

Spiritual Enrichment

For those seeking spiritual enrichment, our Community Chaplain provides diverse programming informed by conversations with community members and input from residents. From weekly bible studies to our Safe Space men’s ministry and courage camps for youth, we offer a range of opportunities for personal growth and communal engagement.

Impact

Community Programming

Since launching the Family Success Network, more than 1,700 community members have participated in our workshops, events, and recreational programming.

Community Meetings

As the people partner in Envision Cayce, we helped facilitate more than 50 community meetings, giving residents decision-making agency in the community revitalization process.

Community Fundraising

MOBC raised more than $16 million and built both Explore Community School and the Family Success Network Community Facility based on community requests, feedback, and vision.
