Empowering

Tomorrow’s Leaders

Martha O’Bryan Center’s Kindergarten through 8th grade out-of-school-time network spans East Nashville and provides daily afterschool and summer programing to hundreds of elementary and middle school students. We strive to be a safe haven for students and their families, offering essential opportunities for academic support, hands-on learning, homework assistance, and mentorship.

Need

Despite spending 80% of their day outside of school, low-income students face a significant lack of safe, affordable, and structured out-of-school time learning opportunities. This scarcity is particularly critical as many of these students attend under-resourced and underperforming schools, where access to such programs is limited.

Approach and Innovation

Our K-8 program provides students with comprehensive academic and social-emotional support in preparation for their transition to high schoolWe focus on enhancing key reading and math skills, fostering healthy social-emotional behaviors, and helping students discover their unique gifts and talents. Our daily programming is divided into three one-hour blocks:

Academics

Tailored literacy or math tutoring sessions help students strengthen their skills and address any areas of weakness.

Social Emotional Learning

Through targeted lessons and real-world applications, students develop essential social and emotional skills.

Enrichment Time

Students choose from a variety of STEAM enrichment activities, opening doors to new opportunities and boosting self-esteem.
