HERstory in the Making: Empowering Women During Women’s History Month
On a vibrant day at the Martha O’Bryan Center, women from all walks of life gathered for the transformative Women’s Empowerment Panel and Resource Fair. This inspiring event sparked meaningful conversations, shared invaluable insights, and offered a wealth of resources to empower women in overcoming challenges and achieving their dreams. With a diverse panel of experts and advocates for women’s success, attendees left the event feeling inspired, supported, and equipped to shape the future they deserve.
A Powerhouse Panel
The event featured a dynamic lineup of panelists, each bringing their unique experiences and expertise to the table. The conversation was guided by women who have not only faced adversity but have triumphed, using their experiences to uplift and inspire others.
Panelists included:
- Sharon Roberson, from the YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee
- Bariangela Segovia and Maliyah Bass of Rolled 4 Ever Ice Cream
- Dr. Jasmine Williamson from Tea Rose Nashville
- Viridiana DeLeon, founder of Nash Latina Bosses
- Mariah Ragland, founder of Radical Rabbit
These women shared personal stories of resilience, courage, and growth, offering essential advice for those looking to forge their own paths in leadership and life.
A Conversation of Empowerment
The discussion touched on several key topics, including the importance of self-care, leadership, and community support. The panelists addressed questions that resonated deeply with attendees, sharing a bit about their journeys and what led them to do the work they do today. They offered advice to give to women looking to enter leadership roles and spoke to the importance of sisterhood.
Throughout the panel, the women shared powerful moments and personal reflections. Sharon Roberson’s message about the importance of self-care—spiritually, physically, and mentally—resonated deeply with the audience, as did Dr. Jasmine Williamson’s reminder to “start where you are” and embrace life’s unpredictability. Viridiana DeLeon’s fearless advice to “do it scared” inspired many, while Maliyah Bass and Bariangela Segovia’s heartfelt story of sisterhood and success illustrated the power of collaboration in achieving dreams.
Community Support and Resources
Beyond the panel, the Resource Fair provided attendees with access to valuable services and organizations committed to supporting women in all stages of their personal and professional journeys. Resource partners such as the YWCA, New Beginnings, Frist Art Museum, AKA, and the Family Safety Center were on hand to provide information, guidance, and resources designed to uplift and support women.
The fair also allowed women to network and connect with one another, creating a space for mutual empowerment and collaboration. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with vendors and gain insights into how they can access the tools and support needed to thrive.
Looking Forward
The primary goals of the HERstory event were clear: to celebrate, inspire, and connect women in the community. Based on the enthusiasm and engagement from the attendees, it’s evident that the event achieved these goals. Participants asked thoughtful questions, engaged with the panelists, and left with new resources that would help them navigate their own journeys.
Feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive, and our Community Outreach Specialist, Sydney Mattern, is already planning to make the next one even bigger and more impactful. The team is committed to promoting the event earlier and expanding its reach to ensure even more women can benefit from this empowering experience.
Moving Forward Together
The HERstory event at the Martha O’Bryan Center was more than just a panel discussion; it was a celebration of women’s strength, resilience, and ability to come together for positive change. By fostering a space for conversation, collaboration, and support, the event laid the foundation for future growth and empowerment for all women in the community. The journey of women supporting women continues—and together, we will continue to rise.
