For our Staff Spotlight, we’re checking in with Shawn Sanders, MOBC’s Director of Adult Education and Employment Pathways.

Q: What should donors know about the Career Pathways program?

MOBC’s Career Pathways are strategically designed to offer our clients the opportunity to explore careers in Hospitality, Information Technology, Construction, and Healthcare; get the initial certifications in their chosen industry; and obtain entry-level employment in that industry. For many of our clients, our program provides a way to escape the cycle of low-wage jobs and a bridge to higher-wage wage jobs.

Q: Where are you now in the program schedule? What are you looking forward to this year?

We just started our Fall Cohort IT Certification Training. This is our longest training class, and I am excited to see the individual growth of this cohort toward careers in IT.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your work with MOBC?

I get to offer hope to each client for a better tomorrow, and I also get to shepherd them into the realization of that hope. I get a front row seat to their lives, their families, and our communities changing for the better. I am grateful for the opportunity to play my small role in empowering our clients to their own greatness.
