Explore 4th-Graders’ Slam Poetry Session Makes Channel 5 News! [Video & Gallery]
Fourth grade Explore! Community School students recently held their own Poetry Slam that was featured on Nashville’s own Channel 5 News. What is a Poetry Slam, you might ask? “Slam Poetry” is a form of live poetry that combines the elements of performance, writing, competition, and audience participation. Events featuring Slam Poetry can also be called a “Poetry Slam,” or simply a “Slam.” Typically, these Slams involve some sort of competition, but in this instance, these 4th-graders were encouraged to overcome their fears of performing onstage and expose their thoughts through creative expression.
