Martha O’Bryan Center’s mission-awareness and fundraising event, Champions Breakfast, returned to its traditional in-person format on September 27, 2022 with an audience of about 700 supporters there to hear stories and strategic updates on the nonprofit’s work. The biennial tradition had not been held live since 2018 and returned to its regular location at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville.
Laniyah Hawkins, 8th grade scholar-athlete, delighted us with her testimony about the loving staff at East End Prep, which recently won Reward School status along with Explore! Community School. She also told us about her plans to attend an HBCU and become a general surgeon.
Teon Lewis shared how Martha O’Bryan Center’s integrated programs –from the Food Bank to Family Preschool— made it possible for her to build a career as a realtor and move out of public housing. She is one of many Family Success Network success stories.
And our final speaker, Chris Clark, brought tears to our eyes with his inspiring story. He was a high school student with an uncertain future who went on to earn a full scholarship to college and is now a star teacher in his second year teaching 9th grade English in Nashville.
