When Charissa first connected with the Martha O’Bryan Center, “life felt a little stuck.” She didn’t have a clear direction.

But while taking care of her father she developed an interest in healthcare. So, when she entered MOBC’s Career Pathways program and its healthcare bootcamp, something clicked.

After completing the program, she earned a new job as a Medical Assistant at Neighborhood Health.

“It feels like a dream come true,” Charissa says. “It’s more than just a job. It’s the result of hard work, growth, and a lot of support. It means stability for me and my family, and it’s the beginning of a real career. Now, I have confidence in my future and goals I’m excited to keep reaching for.”

Support from the Martha O’Bryan Center has been part of her transformation, Charissa says.

“The coaching I received was huge… just having someone to talk to, who believed in me, and helped me stay on track. I also benefited from help with resumes, interview prep, and just life support in general. It was the little things that made the difference.”

Her coaches gave her structure and encouragement. And most of all, she says, they never gave up on her even when she had moments of doubt.

“Life throws challenges, and I’ve learned how to keep going. MOBC helped me believe I could actually make it,” she added. “I want my children to see what’s possible when you don’t give up. That keeps me going, even on the hard days.”

Asked to give advice to others considering programs at MOBC, Charissa said, “Take that first step. You don’t have to have it all figured out — just be willing to grow. MOBC meets you where you are and walks with you. If you’re ready to work toward something better, they’re ready to help.”

“I’m beyond grateful. Thank you for believing in me,” she says. “You didn’t just help me find a job, you helped me find myself again.”

Thanks to our donors, our Career Pathways program has helped more than 300 people find good-paying jobs. Last year, 69 neighbors received coaching and employment support and increased their income by an average of $26,812.
