Academic Student Unions: From Adversity to Advocacy – Tayviana’s Journey of Resilience and Inspiration
As a student at Maplewood High School and a participant in Martha O’Bryan’s Kids Café Program since childhood, Tayviana understands the challenges that families often face at the Martha O’Bryan Center firsthand. During her senior year, Tayviana confronted several difficulties, including the loss of her older sister, who had been a mother figure in her life. Grieving and navigating these challenges, Tayviana turned to her post-secondary success coaches for guidance and support.
Her coaches ensured she was not alone, consistently showing care and encouragement, helping Tayviana envision a future beyond her current circumstances. Emotionally supported, she was motivated to pursue her dream of attending college. Tayviana enrolled in Belmont University and graduated with a degree in Social Work. Today, she pays it forward as a post-secondary success coach, inspiring students to envision possibilities beyond their immediate challenges. Tayvianna is a living example of all that can be achieved with determination and support.
