Often, the winter months bring higher costs and lower or interrupted income for the families of the Martha O’Bryan Center.

On January 1, many rents go up. Cold weather drives up utility bills that can’t be paid in full. Our January budget for client assistance was used by the 7th.

For those with hospitality jobs, winter weeks can be quieter with shorter hours and fewer tips.

Flu season peaks at this time, too, and cases surge over the holidays. Family breadwinners may not have affordable health care or many sick days, if any.

School supplies have been exhausted, but kids still need pencils, paper, and more to finish the year strong.

And for many, the winter brings greater isolation and despair.

Yet, thanks to our community of donors, partners, volunteers, and community partners, we are forever hopeful. Your belief in your neighbors fuels real change and helps create pathways to prosperity for so many.

In 2025, thousands of Nashville neighbors worked hard with the Martha O’Bryan Center to learn new skills, earn high school diplomas, launch new career paths, and begin building brighter futures for themselves and their families.

This year, we’re ready to do even more, standing with them as they strive for stability, opportunity, and long-term success.
